Glenn Swan
Record Producer - Musician - Songwriter - Artist
Glenn Swan, from New Orleans, started playing guitar at the age of 10. At 13, Glenn auditioned for, and was accepted to, the prestigious New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). During this period, Glenn studied with the great Jazz educator Ellis Marsalis. Mr. Marsalis has brought to fruition many great musicians. including his two sons Wynton and Branford, as well as other former students Terence Blanchard, Reginald Veal & Harry Connick Jr. By the time Glenn reached 15, he was supporting himself professionally playing in the many New Orleans area jazz clubs. Glenn credits his father Manfred, a great singer & folk musician, for inspiring him to make a career of music. Upon graduation from NOCCA, Glenn accepted an invitation to the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston. Majoring in Production & Engineering of Music, Glenn says that, "I became serious about playing piano because it is the principal instrument for arranging music." Learning to produce tracks at Berklee under his mentor Michael Burrell, Glenn had the opportunity to work with a lot of great singers and through that influence, became involved in singing the background harmonies. It was here that Glenn had the revelation that he wanted to expand from playing jazz guitar and focus on being a recording artist and producer. With this in mind, Glenn left Berklee College of Music and moved to New York City. Upon his arrival, Glenn secured a job working in one of NYC's top recording studios, Unique Recording Studios. It proved to be an excellent opportunity because once there, he quickly found himself working in sessions with a lot of major talent including, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Rodney Jerkins, Teddy Riley, and one of his all time favorites, DeVante' Swing & Jodeci. It was here that he met Vincent Davis, Keith Sweats manager. Vincent Davis became a powerful influence on Glenn and through this relationship, Glenn signed to Warner/Elektra Records. Though under contract for 4 years, no record was ever commercially released, and eventually Glenn won his release from his Artist contracts and decided to put his focus primarily on producing records. Over the years, Glenn has appeared in LIFE Magazine in New Orleans, as one of the young lions of Jazz, he's also been featured for his music production on MTV's House of Style as well as other MTV programs. Other Television work includes the Growing Up Gotti show, as well as doing music production for featured talent on 20/20 with Barbara Walters.
